What Trainbase is, what it isn't, and what its numbers mean. Trainbase is run by Trainbase Pty Ltd (ACN 688 643 656, ABN 93 688 643 656).

1. trainbase supports coaches. it gives no medical advice.

Trainbase is software a coach uses to plan and track a client's training, food and body. The programs, diets, targets and notes in it come from your coach, not from Trainbase. Nothing in Trainbase is medical, dietary, physiotherapy or other health advice, and Trainbase doesn't check that a plan suits you.

Talk to a doctor before you start a new training or eating plan, especially if you have a health condition, an injury, or are pregnant. Stop and get help if something hurts or feels wrong. Your coach and your doctor know you. Trainbase doesn't.

2. one-rep maxes are estimates

A one-rep max is the most you could lift once. Trainbase works it out from a set you logged, using its weight and reps, and some lifts from body measurements instead. These are estimates, marked as estimates in the app, and they can be wrong. The weight Trainbase suggests for a set, worked out as a share of that estimate, is a starting point. Your coach, and how the lift feels on the day, decide what you lift.

3. body composition comes from your coach's method

Fat and lean figures come from the method your coach chooses:

  • Skinfold tests, measured by your coach at set sites on the body, turned into a body-fat percentage with published equations: the Jackson-Pollock 3-site and 7-site equations, or Parrillo's 9-site rule of thumb.
  • A device reading, such as a scan or a body-composition scale, typed in as the device shows it.

Every method has its own margin of error, and two methods can disagree. Figures compare best with the same method, measured the same way, over time. None of them is a medical test.

4. food figures

Food values come from public food databases (from the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, and an open, shared food database) and from foods coaches add themselves. Calories are worked out from protein, carbohydrate and fat. Any of these can hold mistakes, and real food varies from the label.

5. what AI reads is a draft

Trainbase can use AI to read a photo of a program sheet or a meal. This is switched off today. When it is on, what the AI reads is a draft: you check and correct every row before anything is added, and it can be wrong. Nothing an AI reads is advice.

6. other people's words and programs

Notes, messages, check-in questions and programs are written by coaches and clients, not by Trainbase. A program listed for sale is the seller's. We don't review what people write or sell, and we aren't responsible for it.

7. device readings

Readings from a phone or a wearable device come from that device as it reports them. Trainbase shows them as they arrive and can't check that they are accurate.

8. the free tools on our website

The calculators on trainbase.io, such as the one-rep max and calorie calculators, give general estimates from what you type in. They aren't advice for you.

9. liability

Nothing here takes away your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Apart from those rights, and to the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for loss that comes from relying on an estimate, a figure or a plan in Trainbase. Section 12 of the terms of use sets this out in full.
